The Page to Stage Workshop Series is a structured curriculum focused on the complete craft of spoken word and slam poetry. The workshops are designed to build practical skills, guiding participants through the entire artistic process: from initial idea generation to polished stage performance.
Key areas of study include narrative writing techniques, specific self-editing strategies, constructive peer feedback processes, and dynamic performance skills (both vocal and physical).
The series is modular, offering a range of formats from 1-hour introductory classes to 3-day competitive bootcamps. This allows writers and performers of all experience levels—from first-time speakers to experienced slammers—to find a program that matches their specific goals.
Re-author your story. Reclaim your voice. Find healing in community.
This 14-workshop series is a comprehensive, trauma-informed journey designed to help you process grief, loss, and trauma through the transformative power of spoken word poetry.
This program is built on a "Triad of Healing," guiding you from the private page to the embodied voice to a validated, communal experience.
The Story (Cognitive): Learn to structure your experiences. Using research-backed expressive writing prompts and creative "distancing techniques," you will build a "safe container" to externalize your story, find meaning, and begin to re-author your narrative.
The Voice (Somatic): Discover your voice as an instrument of healing. Based on the science of how sound and breath regulate the nervous system, you'll practice vocal and somatic exercises to release tension, reconnect with your body, and embody your story with power.
The Witness (Communal): Find strength in being heard. Trauma and grief can be isolating. Our "Healing Circles" are 100% critique-free, sacred spaces where you can share your work. Through the powerful practice of "Active Witnessing," your story will be validated, breaking the cycle of isolation.
From gentle one-hour "taster sessions" to immersive three-day retreats, this series is a scaffolded, supportive path for anyone—no writing experience necessary. This is a safe space to find your voice, tell your story, and transform.
This collection of workshops provides a structured, supportive environment for exploring creative writing as a tool for healing and self-discovery. Based on Judith Herman's evidence-based, tri-phasic model of recovery, each offering is designed to meet participants where they are.
The journey is guided by three distinct stages:
Stage 1: Safety & Stabilization: Building a foundation of trust and practicing grounding tools.
Stage 2: Remembrance & Mourning: Safely giving voice to difficult stories in a contained, private way.
Stage 3: Reconnection & Integration: Creatively redefining identity based on strength, resilience, and future hopes.
Offerings are available as brief introductions, focused sessions, and deep, multi-day journeys. (1-hour, 2-hour, half-day, full-day, 2-day, 3-day)
This workshop is guided by the principle of "Two-Eyed Seeing," a gift from Mi'kmaq Elder Albert Marshall. It asks us to use both eyes to find our way:
● From one eye, we see the strengths of Western models for healing—like understanding the stages of trauma recovery and the psychology of grief.
● From the other eye, we see the profound, time-tested wisdom of Indigenous worldviews—that healing is holistic, that the land is our first teacher, that our stories are sacred, and that we are all related.
Our goal is to learn from both perspectives, using both eyes together.
In this workshop, our "group rules" are based on the Indigenous worldview of "All My Relations." This means we are all related, and we have a sacred responsibility to each other and to each other's stories.
For our time together, our community agrees to:
● Sacred Confidentiality: What is shared in the circle, stays in the circle.
● Right to Pass: You are your own expert. You can pass on any prompt, question, or sharing that doesn't feel right for you. We honor your "no."
● Witnessing, Not Judging: We are here to listen with our hearts, not to "fix" or "critique." We are sacred witnesses for one another.
● Care for Self, Care for Relations: Please take care of your own needs (water, breaks, stretching) so that you can be present for your relations in this circle.
